Why are Western European countries develop democratic governments in comparison with Eastern Europe?

In the 19th century. I understand Europe had authoritarian regimes during the time that, as countries like Germany and Austria-Hungary. And on the other hand countries like Britain and France became more democratic. Does anyone know why? and any other factors? people? I am studying this in history and our textbook touches this subject. MANY THANKS.

This was due to a number of factors. Poland had a much more liberal constitution under its sovereignty before it was cut between Russia, Prussia and Austria. These were the three big players in Central Europe. The Austro-Hungarian empire was a large number of ethnic groups and the Emperor felt that the only way to maintain the rule of the division of separation was to keep the heavy hand in all the lower classes. South of the Austro-Hungarian border were Slavs who had recently gained its independence from the Ottoman Empire, so it is still finding his feet at the end of the century. The Holy Roman Empire in Germany has always had a diet, when leaders and electors met to discuss the emperor wanted to do. But Napoleon killed Human Rights Education and a Once Napoleon was finally driven into exile, Germany quickly organized into a confederation. Prussia was by far the strongest and most militant. France, for course, were subjected to violent and bloody process of the French Revolution, which was designed to install a kind of constitutional monarchy (the idea died when King Louis the 16th and Marie Antoinette were convicted of treason and executed. There was a fierce struggle between the various parties, Napoleon, who finally ended with another strong central state. But Britain has just kept growing more liberal, at least with respect to legal equality and the end of slavery. Great Britain had a true republic since the end of the Civil War of 1640-1649. Netherlands and Belgium also wanted more democratic institutions.
