If we had something like NRA in Europe you think the killing rates would increase?

I watched the movie “Bowling at Columbine” by M. Moore. I am sure you know what I’m talking about. Moore is accusing the NRA as responsible, in a way, of the killing at Columbine in 1999 and he asks for strict rules to limit the sale of firearms in US. Two years ago, here in Italy, two high school students during the week end entered the school and flooded two floors of it opening the taps in the bath rooms so that the water kept running all week end long. That was a national scandal, press and media discussing over and over about the juvenile problems…I mean, this was the worst crime committed by students in Italy but In Italy is not possible to buy firearms if you do not have a legal permit (which is not easily released). Do you think there is a connection between these massacre and such a wide selling of firearms in US or is just the isolate act of a “crazy guy”?

1. The guns wielded by the killer were found to be legitimately obtained. Therefore some links exist.

2. Progun advocates usally use some both silly arguments and good ones.
The silly arguments:
- even a baseball bat can kill. This phrase doesn’t deserve even any objection: a club can match an automatic gun at even odds?
- if firearms were permitted in Vatech, the gunner would have to think about before doing that. Pals, he was crazy as a horse. Here question is: how it can be permitted to a fool to buy firearms?
Not so silly arguments:
-if firearms were permitted in Vatech, students could have defended their selves. It’s possible. But figure most easy outcome: a building crowded by armed and possibly untrained persons who panicked away or draw their own gun and shot to any person with a gun. I know you have a military background: a good targeting practice is enough for a real fighting situation? Wielding a weapon is the same as pulling the trigger against another person?
Arguments that sound good:
-it is just the isolate act of a “crazy guy”. This has nothing to do with firearms regulation. Swiss example usually follows. It’s right but there a mad with previous record of insanity was permitted to buy firearms. And I agree that firearms only aren’t to blame: there are some flaws in American society; similar cases happen in USA much more than in any another western country. Different society require different law, so Swiss law doesn’t matter.
-Strictly regulating firearms use could have effect good on law-abiding citizens, not on criminals who buy weapons on the black market. I agree with this: too firearms circulate in USA and if a State pass a ban, may be it will risk to lure violent criminals.
But w-Europe Countries doesn’t have this problem: why have we to import it?
