What is that thing on drug store signs?

It looks like a crock or bowl with some type of stirrer in it. Just about every drug store you see has one on its sign. What is that thing?

its called a mortar and pestle. we use it in the pharmacy to grind up pills to put them in compounds and make mixtures.
