Physics; legend Dutch boy who bravely held throughout the Atlantic and the finger is this possible?

There is a legend of a child Dutch who bravely held back the entire Atlantic Ocean by plugging a hole in a dike with his finger. Is this possible?

From a viewpoint physical, there are no objections, a water pressure of a couple of meters below sea level, a hole the size of a finger, no big deal. However, the dikes are of land. To which the water leaves on the dry side, the dock, basically, has to be saturated with all the water to finish. The hole the size of a finger is first in the dam failed, it is doubtful that the water takes a long time to find another way around the little finger. (The dam is dozens of meters wide at the base of her finger only centimeters long) From the point of view of geography is totally impossible, because the Netherlands is located in the North Sea, not the Atlantic Ocean. O)
