How do I get a high gloss coloured (red) finish to an old oak table that has a french polish finish?

I recently bought an old 18th C style oak drop leaf table from an auction but want to modernise it by spraying it with a high gloss laquer in red . I want to achieve a shiny glass finish but have no ide where to start. please help. Thanks.

french polish finish is a term that refers to a paste wax finish, the type of application style basically is the reason it’s called “french polish.” As with any wax, you could rub it out with denatured alcohol or other de-waxer product. There’s probably going to be reminents of a varnish or shellac finish under the wax as well.
If you intend to spray high gloss red paint on it, the varnish or shellac is probably so old that the paint will adhere without any problem whatsoever. Just to be sure, you could lightly go over the table with a 150 or higher grit sandpaper to remove or rough-up the old varnish/shellac.
