Where can I find information about antique Absinthe accessories?
My fiance just bought a box that we believe was used as an Absinthe spoon holder. I have searched many sites that showcase Absinthe antiques and cannot find any information about this. Even Yahoo! Answers doesn’t have any information about it! The box is a dark wood and it has the word “Cuilleres” (which means “spoon” in French) on the front. He believes it is from the 1800s. Does anyone know about this item or have any ideas as to where I might find more information?

You very likely do have an antique absinthe spoon. This piece is very likely to be extremely valuable. With the US only recently legalizing wormwood absinthe there has been a spike in demand for the proper glasses and spoons to serve it. Among these, the antique french variety are especially sought after. With items such as these the best bet to find information would be to look for absinthe forums on the internet and ask around. Sooner or later you will find a connoisseur that knows something. Some companies that produced these items in the early nineteenth century may have long since gone bankrupt, leaving only very hard to find information regarding their existence. Best of luck to you and if I may offer a piece of advise, enjoy the pursuit of the information on the origin of this item, it will take time and effort, but after you may find yourself in the possession of something more valuable than you originally thought.
