How I can make a 4×4 tile framed mirror or picture frame?
I have the tiles and now I need to know how to make a framed mirror with them. Also need to know how to make a framed picture frame. Both projects are being made for class projects for the school's annual auction. All tables have been painted by children and look amazing. I want the final product justice.
You should have some wood and cut the size of the mirror or frame. Placement of the pieces in the corners will be important. I recommend "pocket screws' for this. To make the cut and easy installation of boards and the connection between them is very strong. This game will do very well for your project http://www.kregtool.com/products/pht/product.php?PRODUCT_ID=30 This image shows how the corners go together http://www.kregtool.com/products/image_browser/lg-image.php?IMG_ID=151 is likely to use 1×4 boards that measure 3 / 4 "thick and 3 1 / 2" wide. If that's the skinny then get some 1×6 cards and have someone to cut to the width of your tiles. You want to choose the best advice I can. After your frame is built you want to cut a rabbit on it to hold the mirror. This can be done with a router and a little rabbiting. The rabbit is cavity in which the image is to attach or mirror. Traditionally then, the class / picture / mirror is held with a small piece of wood and a small few nails. picture frame shops may have other techniques and may be able to advise you. Once your framework is to construct, equip and Rabbit then you can place the tiles. You could use a putty stick tile or mortar. There would be no need for cement board. After the box set, then grout them. After things are cemented, then you can paint the exposed wood edges.
