my plants really weird, and confusing?
I got this Purple Pitcher carnivourus plant about last march. I havnt fed it flies, beetles, whatever they eat, given it water, or the humidity it needs. Your thinking its dead, right? Nope! Its alive and well! I dont get it, and i would like to know why. I dont think theres a way magical humidity, water, or bugs could’ve gotton in there because theres a lid.
This is what it looks like. ( I took the pic about 10 minutes ago)
Please give me a reason to this. Im verry confused
You don’t have to feed your Purple Pitcher plant any bugs, maybe once and a while chuck one in there, but otherwise they don’t really need it. The reason your plant is alive is because your container has a lid on it, and I noticed you have sphagnum moss on the bottom. Sphagnum moss holds water like a sponge, and it doesn’t dry out very easily. When the vapour does rise, it doesn’t go anywhere because of your lid, thus the water stays in, and your plant flourishes. I have terrariums for my carnivorous plants, and I hardly water them. Though maybe almost every month I let the lids off, allowing the water vapour rise, and put in fresh rainwater. If you want more information on your plant, how to maintain it, types of soil, and the do’s and don’ts, I reccomend reading Barry Rice books. He’s like the carnivorous plant guru. Other wise check out his site, and here’s the Q & A’s area: http://www.sarracenia.com/faq.html
Also, put your pitcher plant in a new container, you’re squishing your plant, and it has hardly any room to grow.
Scootin’ on a pitcher lid lol
