What is the best way to eliminate the hot wax from the surface of the painted wall?

I poured a glass bottle against a votive melting wall that was on top of my dining booth. He went against the wall of me that is the wine color. Is there a better way to remove the wax without damaging the wall and work paint?

Instead of a newspaper against the wax, and set the iron to the lowest setting. The transfer of heat from the wax to the newspaper, that can be thrown away. Then, use a very gentle cleanser, like very diluted dishwashing liquid to remove any leftover residue. Good Luck!
