God Created in Man’s Image?
The book of Genesis says that God created us in “their image” (plural) and of course the assumption is that the “our” that’s spoken of means the trinity. And maybe one day someone will be able to explain the trinity so that we humanoids can grasp it. I have my interpretations and explanations, but what do I know (for sure)? Let me share some sobering thoughts that will hopefully increase your faith or at least the urgency to continue the journey.
As the philsopher has said, God created us in His image (no gender intended) and we returned the favor and created God in our image!
Honesty and intellectual integrity demands that we agree!
There’s no wonder that religious fundamentalists see the book used by Christians, called the Bible, is inspired and God-breathed, otherwise the book (a library of books actually) is no more than MAN giving words to his thoughts of and about God. If God is who we think the Creator is, then the only way that we can talk about God is with METAPHORS!
Finite man cannot come close to articulating what INFINITENESS is.
When I sit in front of my sun-bathed window free from the cold of the morning air, thoughts run through my head about the true nature of this God that WE have created! When we see the awesome violence in the world wherein thousands of people have their limbs cut off with a machete, I have to wonder about how this works in a world created by a loving God.
When I see suicide bombers freely kill themselves and dozens of others that they might spend eternity with cosmic virgins, I have to ask just how delusional we have ebcome in reference to a diety such as that? More fundamentally, when I see my loved ones suffer incredible pain from cancer, heart problems, and a myraid of other ailments, I have to get gut-level honest with the absence of action by God.
And then I ask? Does God intervene at all? Tell me about that- your experience.
How does God pick and choose to whom He-She-It will help, heal, or hover over in time of need? We ALL have created a God in OUR OWN IMAGE. But that IMAGE that we embrace most often has been sold to us, packaged and merchandized, by the church. Have you reviewed the history of the church? And this is our source material? We need a COMMUNITY to do life. If the trinity tells us anything, there’s a concept to embrace (community) .
I’m still creating my God, but let me share briefly what mold I’ve fashioned so far.
1-God is love- beyond any concept that we have of that four-letter word.
2-Creation can not be by accident nor malevolent, though that does not rule out some evolutionary principles or creationism in foundational ways.
3-All is spirit, frequency, wave, particle, and light and will one day return to the Source.
4-Stuff (you know the 40-letter word) happens! And if there was ever a truth in Matthew, it would be 5:45.
5-God and life is a mystery to be pursued, studied, enjoyed, and passionately embraced. I’m afraid the ego is just going to have to suck it up and be content with not knowing, although there ae numerous denominations that are sure they have it all figured out and they can’t wait to inform you of such.
I want around me people who have divergent and diverse view of God so that iron might sharpen iron, but that also demands a communtiy of people who love one another enough to realize with my pain is their pain, my victories are their victories, and who live a life of mercy and forgiveness.
In other words, while we all have created God “in our image”, but there is one who gave us the best picture of God that I know of and His name was Jesus. He became the Christ and He lived in an era 2,000 years ago from which we must mine the principles that are applicable to 2008. And not all of the things He did are in the Bible! Did I mention that’s not an easy job either because the church has also created Jesus in “their corporate image” as well. I have many good images from my church training. And then I have some serious not so good ones as well.
How’s the pottery work going for you? Need some major reshaping?

Can I get into Cal Tech?
Im just a little worried about my chances of getting in. I heard they require a 4.0 GPA and require a year of actual art, like pottery or painting. I have neither. It was only this year that I realized I wanted to be an engineer and the Cal Tech was a perfect fit as the majority of my family lives close by.
I am a junior in high school right now. I have a 3.7 unweighted GPA and a 4.35 weighted GPA. Im in various clubs such as DECA, ACE, WAC, and HEART. I am also in the IB program and volunteer extensively to go along with some AP classes on the side. I am Asian by the way. I scored at 750 on the Math PSAT and low 600s on the Reading/Writing.
By the way, does having your grades go up during the course of high school make you have a higher chance or is it negligable?
I had many B’s in freshman year, but I have been painfully pulling straight A’s for the last 2 semesters. This is reverse when I asked my friends about theirs. All of theirs went down.
doubt it.. you gpa is on the low side. I mean, you need about an unweighted 3.9 GPA at minimum and your SAT Reasoning test score should be like a 2150+ and you need lots of community service (350 hours minimum) and you should maintain leadership roles in those clubs. Don’t undermine a university like Cal Tech. It is basically the equivalent of MIT.
Seriously, this is what you probably need. And if you are a junior, I doubt you can pull up that GPA much.
