How come when hot water is poured to a mug with tea bag it crackles, it never occurs with cold water?

Is this science or logic?

Science… you’re pouring hot boiling water (212F) into a room temperature mug. That’s a least 140F temperature difference. Cold water (about 40 F) gives a temperature difference of about 30F. When you have a great temperature difference, the mug doesn’t expand quick enough or evenly (bottom is hot while the top is cold) so it cracks.

If you take a cold mug with water, heat it in a microwave, the mug is warms up with the water so the expansion is even, resulting in NO cracking.
