my question is about painting watercolours?
I paint in oils all the time so I know nothing, or very little, about watercolours.
I have Arum lilies in my garden.I’ve taken some of them in and put them in a vase. They are very beautiful. I’ve done a drawing of them in pencil and it turned out very well, but it needs colour. They are so delicate that I think oils would be too heavy to do them justice. But, if I try to do watercolour, will the pencil run into the colour and make it muddy? If I use hairspray to ‘set’ the colour, will it create a coating over which I cannot use the paint? This is a lovely drawing. i don’t want to destroy it. Can anyone help me with this? I thank you in advance.
Thanks for your input, Mr. Mo green. I never said gorgeous. I said lovely. and it IS lovely-insofar as I am able to create. It turned out better than I dared hope and, since they are MY lilies, I’d like to do them justice. With yourself’s, and other’s help, that might be possible.
If you have a drawing that is working well and you are worried about over working it,try to do another painting from the drawing and lilies.There are no rules,only guidelines.Some pencils are soft and water based,usually graphite doesn’t smudge but can show through water colours.Any paint,oil or water based can be used thinly and delicately,use what ever you are happiest with and really do your flowers justice by doing a whole series of them.So many people do not know what to paint next,think yourself one of the lucky few that have too many choices and enjoy….
