Indian wedding vases? What are they actually for?
I received a Beautiful Blue glass indian Wedding Vase as a wedding gift, and I have fallen in love with them, I’ve been looking at lots of them online and trying to figure out the meaning behind them, nothing yet. I know that they are made by Native Americans and that’s about it. The one that I have is obviously handmade, has native american writing inside of it, it’s blue but has a double clear handle on it with little flower type things at the base of the handles almost like it’s holding the handle on. I know that there are clay indian vases (most of them are clay from what I’ve seen). Are they considered to be Good Luck, a symbol of peace, are they suppose to be used only on your wedding day, or what? Are they actually suppose to be used for flowers~wouldn’t that ruin the clay pots?
The vase I have is made of clay from the Sioux in South Dakota. It has two spouts.
Wedding vases
Wedding Vases were widely used by many Indian tribes in America. Many believe that as part of the ancient marriage ceremony the medicine man would prepare a special potion for the young lovers.
The mixture signified the promise of deep love and eternal happiness for the couple. The Brave and Maiden then sealed the promise by drinking the potion simultaneously from the vase, each using one spout. Wedding vases thus became a symbol of happiness and remain so to this day.
