Vintage Recipes for Potluck Needed, Dessert?
Hello Yahoo Answers folks!
I’m attending a potluck on Wednesday, and I want to bring something unique (last time 4 people brought pasta salad).
I’d like something that is antiquated and not often seen these days, some sort of vintage recipe.
I’d like it to be a dessert, preferably. The only thing I can really think of is a Jell-o mold fruit salad. But I’d like to see what other options I have.
Can you recommend anything, or even link to a recipe?
*Side Note*- I just learned the beat it dance and I’m stoked!
Oh, and someone is already bringing a Pie, so no need for pie recipes.
Apple Pandowdy
1 1/4 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk
2 1/2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoons salt
4 cup peeled, sliced apples
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoons nutmeg
whipped cream or Ice Cream for garnish Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt, set aside.
butter a 9″ square Baking Dish. Place sliced apples in buttered baking dish and sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in egg. Add flour mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture to make a stiff batter. Spread batter evenly over apples (see photo) and bake for about 50 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for at least ten minutes before serving.
You can serve this dish right out of the pan, or invert it onto a Serving Plate like an upside-down cake, warm or at room temperature. Top with whipped cream or ice cream.
Note: I double the topping ingredients.
Seafoam Lime Mold Salad
13 ounce package lime jello
21 cup boiling water
3½ cup cold water
41 Tbls lemon juice
51 8 ounce package cream cheese
61 ½ cups miniature marshmallows
713 ½ ounce can crushed pineapple
8½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Dissolve lime gelatin in boiling water, add cold water and lemon juice.
Gradually add to softened cream cheese, mixing until well blended. Chill until almost firm, fold in marshmallows, pineapple and nuts. Pour into a 1 quart mold, chill until firm.
Note: If you don’t want to put it into a mold just use a nice Glass Bowl.
