Painting disaster! My yellow walls are too bright! Will glazing over it help? If so, how do I do it?
I need to tone down my kitchen walls. My Benjamin Moore Sweet Butter paint looks more like a can of corn! Any suggestions on how to lighten up the look? Thanks

OK, so what to do depends on what you want the outcome to be.
If you truly do want a lighter, softer shade of yellow, I’d recommend just buying another shade of paint and re-doing the whole thing. I don’t think a glazing or faux-paint treatment would get you that look. You MIGHT end up with a lighter overall feel, but I don’t think you’d be too happy with the “mottled” or uneven appearance that faux-painting gives.
However … since you’ve already got that Bright Yellow on the walls, if you feel a little daring (?) you COULD opt for a glazing or faux-treatment using a darker, richer paint. There are many techniques … ragging, dry-brushing, sponging …
I’m thinking perhaps something like a burnt umber (sort of an amber color) mixed with a LOT of glaze … dry-brushed on, lightly, and then softened with a ragging technique (2-person job … one to brush, one to follow with the cloth), which just softens the brushstrokes. The yellow would show through, but wouldn’t be so bright. You could even dry-brush/rag 2 colors for more depth.
So it depends … if you want a lighter color, just repaint. If you want to experiment (it’s only paint, after all!) you might try a faux-paint treatment!
